About the Artist

Yan Wen-Tang

顏文堂

Born in 1950 in Changhua, Taiwan, he was inspired and mentored by Mr. Bang-yong Zhou, who marked the beginning of his journey in calligraphy and painting.   In his 30s, he apprenticed under the renowned master Chi-Mao Lee, formally joining the "Caifeng Hall" and dedicating his life to the study of the charm of ink painting.

In 1987, seeking to focus fully on advancing his skills in sketching, he decided to move to Hualien, settling in a serene and secluded cottage.   There, he took on the title of the owner of "Immaculate Hermitage," spending his days traversing mountains and rivers, capturing nature’s essence through ink painting.   For decades, he poured his heart and soul into the world of ink art, embodying the spirit of an artist with the sentiment, "Unaware of aging as I paint; wealth and fame are like fleeting clouds to me."

His creative style is fresh and unique, blending traditional techniques with modern innovation.   He has won the Hualien County Fine Arts National Painting Heritage Award and served as president of the Hualien County Art Association and the Lotus Painting Association.   His works have been exhibited in cultural centers across Taiwan and in international art exhibitions in countries such as China, the United States, Spain, and Japan.
